Declutter Your Mind This Mental Health Awareness Month

Posted on

Spring cleaning isn’t just for your closet—it’s for your mind, too. As flowers bloom and the days get longer, May brings a perfect opportunity to reset—not just your home, but your headspace. In honour of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re inviting our community to declutter the thoughts that no longer serve them and create room for peace, clarity, and growth.

“Discard anything that doesn’t spark joy.”

And yes, that includes emotional baggage.

What Is Mental Clutter?

Mental clutter is the constant hum of unfinished thoughts, old fears, lingering self-doubt, and that overwhelming to-do list you never got around to. Like a messy room, a cluttered mind can make it hard to focus, stay present, or feel at ease.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or scattered—it might be time to sweep out the corners of your mind.

How to Declutter Your Mind: Start with Journaling

Journaling is a powerful mental reset button. It helps bring subconscious noise into the light so you can let go of what’s heavy and reconnect with what’s meaningful.

Use these 10 journaling prompts to mentally “spring clean”:

Mental Clutter Prompts

  • Imagine your mind as a bedroom. What does it look like right now?
  • What’s been taking up the most space in your thoughts lately?
  • Which beliefs or commitments no longer align with who you want to become?
  • Are you avoiding any emotions right now? What would a healthy way of processing them look like?
  • Describe a moment when you felt truly at peace. What contributed to that feeling?

Mental Health Month Intention Prompts

  • What habits or mindsets would you like to invite in this month?
  • What’s one small, actionable step you can take this month to declutter your mind?
  • What does “balance” mean to you? What does it look like in your life right now?
  • What three words do you want to embody this Spring? Why?
  • Write a letter to the version of yourself you’re becoming.

Thanks to your support, we’ve already sponsored over 7,000 therapy sessions—and we’re just getting started.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re aiming to sponsor even more. Want to help? Donations to the Wirth Foundation are always welcome. Click here to donate. Every dollar helps someone access the care they deserve.
