Wirth Moving Day

Throughout August we raise money through movement and community - building to our annual event. On Sunday, August 30th, every kilometre moved raises a dollar to make therapy more affordable. Bike, walk, paddle, or run; if it’s movement, it counts.

Every km on Strava = $1 toward free therapy

Why we move

People are not getting the help they deserve.

Too many people live with mental health challenges and go without support — not because they don’t want help, but because they can’t afford it. Cost is one of the biggest reasons people never access care: 1 in 3 Canadians with a diagnosed mental health condition reported not getting care due to cost.1

Every dollar raised through Wirth Moving Day goes directly to the Wirth Foundation, helping people around the world get the mental health support they deserve.

What funded therapy made possible.

“At that time I was in quite a dark place for a couple of years. Being able to have that funded therapy, and the opportunity to speak about who I am and what I was struggling with, allowed me to see light for the first time in a long time.”

“It honestly felt so nice that at the time everything was wild, and there was an organization that was like — hey, yeah, we see you.”

“Even before the therapy started, it creates this sense of belonging to a broader group of people trying to empower and improve the lives of others, which is a super powerful thing.”

The Campaign

How Wirth Moving Day works

Run, cycle, hike, or move however you choose. Every kilometre logged on Strava becomes a $1 donation toward free therapy. Throughout August, community partners fundraise within their own circles — then on August 30th, it all comes together for one day of collective impact.

About the campaign

The campaign challenge

We’re so grateful to Strava for partnering with us to put Wirth Moving Day in front of all of Canada. On Sunday, August 30th, our campaign appears across the Strava platform nationwide — one day where the whole country moves together, and every kilometre becomes a donation toward free counselling.

Open Strava on the day and you’ll see our challenge pop up to join. We’ll also broadcast it in the weeks before, so you can add it ahead of time and be ready.

Walk, run, cycle, hike, paddle, or move however works for you. However you move through Strava, you’re helping fund a therapy session for someone who couldn’t otherwise afford one.

Why we move

Our goal is to support as many people as possible — in our own community and across North America. The money raised through Wirth Moving Day funds our counselling program, giving mental health support to people who otherwise couldn’t afford it.

Sponsorships and community partners are what make this possible. Every contribution, big or small, goes directly toward the next person who needs support.

All of August

Before Wirth Moving Day, all of August is a chance to get involved. Community partners — movement clubs, groups, and individuals — fundraise within their own communities all month long, each with their own fundraising page.

If you’re part of their community, you can donate directly to their page or move alongside them. Throughout August, donations go toward each partner’s goal. Then on August 30th, anyone can join in.

Coming soon: we’ll be announcing our community fundraising partners next month, along with some well-known active influencers joining us. Personal fundraising pages go live right before August — check back soon.

The big day

On Wirth Moving Day, you can begin or end your Strava challenge at our hub — with music, free race-day goodies, and a few awesome surprises.

Vancouver hub, location TBA. Accessible for our local Vancouver supporters; our secret location is announced closer to event day. Expect sponsor booths, free race-day goodies, live music, and a photo wall.

All fitness levels, open all day, community vibes. Whether you’re lacing up or wrapping up your kilometres, the hub is your place to connect with the Wirth community and celebrate everyone moving together across the country.

Building on last year

Wirth Moving Day launched in 2025 within our own community. This year we’re partnering with Strava to share the campaign across all of Canada, reaching a national audience of active Canadians.

2025

800 people participating · 5,698 km logged · 6 community clubs involved.

2026 goal

18,000+ people in person and online · 50,000+ km logged · 15+ community clubs.

For the first time, Wirth Moving Day will be promoted to every Strava user in Canada - bringing the campaign beyond our community and into the national conversation, so we can fund more free therapy sessions for more people who need them.

Our Story

Mental health is Wirth moving for.

The Wirth Foundation was created in memory of Jakob Wirth, whose dream was to start a hat company. Jakob believed hats were more than an accessory — they were part of someone’s identity.

In 2014, while building that dream, Jakob died by suicide. He never spoke about his mental health, never shared that he was struggling, and never received professional support.

His loss inspired our mission: that no one is denied mental health care because they can’t afford it. We are a registered Canadian charity, driven by the belief that mental health support should never be out of reach.
