We hung out with Praise Vaughn, boxing and fitness instructor (and overall badass) at her stylish abode in Gastown for our #BringsMeWirth series. Known for catalyzing sheer strength and energy amongst the people around her constantly, her mental health practice is quiet, quaint, and involves her furry friend, Herbie.
Ever truly HUSTLE-ed? HUSTLE Studio owner Brent Price sat down in his new Mount Pleasant studio with WIRTH, lifted a couple kettlebells, and shared a story of a mental health practice turned physical health practice, unpacking the powerful correlation between physical and mental strength.
“Since I was a little kid I was always drawn to working with my hands and any creative outlet, really. I started with acting because of it being a very physical, all body thing. Whenever I‘m feeling overwhelmed or anxious or don’t know what I’m doing, I definitely turn to something that takes me out of my head and into my physical body. “
What is it that you do for your own mental health? We hung out with Aaron De Jong, founder of @Movement108 and @movrofficial, to explore this question as we meandered through Granville Island–his happy place. Complete with local teas in hand, and some good people watching.
“When I walk down to Granville Island, I’ll often just ditch my phone and take my time, go order a tea, and then I’ll either just like, peruse the shops or listen to a busker. I just listen to my thoughts and everything settles. And by the time I leave, I’m feeling like a more grounded version of myself, with clearer thoughts. I’m lighter going home, having broken up the busyness of my brain into a place where I can just be authentically relaxed, and…be?”
